Actually, the hype cycle makes sense to me...

This author suggest that HTML5 will be enterprise business ready in two t0 three years, not the 5 to 10 years that Gartner is predicting.

I do believe we're still in the hype phase, but people are starting to see some disappointments once they actually use the technology in it's current state.  Take Goko for example, which just had to put it's game portal back into beta because it couldn't scale fast enough.

That might help explain why although HTML5 seems to be all the rage, and the death of Flash has already been considered to occur, that most web sites are still using Flash.
